Anyone know what the small hose off the air intake is for?

Hi I can't find the part that the hose connects to at the engine on the parts diagrams its #24 under engine and air intake silencer for the 06 180 and Im not sure what the hose is for? I have an 06 Challenger 180 with the air box and no filter which I'm changing to have a K&N on the stock Air intake tube. On the newer models I see the have the hose attached to the tube too. Just not sure if it needs to the attached to the air intake tube or just have a filter on the end of the small rubber hose.

Dang, I have no idea myself. I grabbed a better picture. The parts diagram says 3/4 hose. I will have to go home and read my shop manual. This one is showing to the valve cover? A lot of engines have an oil breather system.

engine breather pipe return to air intake.

some fix catch can instead of returning oily blow back into the air intake.
i have kept the return back into air intake, you can see the hose joined below the filter.

Pete63 thanks! did you make that yourself? I like the clean install I was thinking of something similar my voltage regulator sits on top of the old air box I was going to move it to a dry cool location so I don't have any issues?

My challenger 210 does not have air filters on the engines. I'm trying to figure out why I would need them. On a car, obviously dust and dirt are the primary concern. Those elements are largely absent on the water. I wonder if restricting the airflow would be worse than having the filters.

Not declaring one way better than the other.

in terms of to air filter or not, after removing my supercharger and seeing the accumulated stuff on it, I think that clean air is better. Just my two cents

yeah, i dont disagree with your point, but with engines with the super chargers i would say its required. the air compression needs to be clean as possible, any oily crud build up reduces performance. (see service update sheets)

I don't see a way I could work one into my silencers, but am intrigued now.

Well once I get my engine out, that will be one of the updates for me. And hopefully I can pipe air in from the PORT side vent and get colder air.

dry paper pod filter, remove silencer and re-do the piping to suit how and where you put the filter..
