My understanding is that the GTR is nothing more than a supercharged GTI, so they should handle the same, but the GTR should accelerate a bit faster and have a higher top speed.

In fact I bought a GTI170 as they were no GTI130 available.
since the power is what make you turn faster it does not turn as quickly.
other than that it is a great machine.
the difference in acceleration is quite significant.
for speed the 170 is only 6 miles per hour slower.

Curious...where do you ride? There's Chatfield and Cherry Creek reservoirs, but from what I know, that's about it in the Denver area.

But most of it is lake powell
