Anyone had this happen? Sheared in two.

2005 RXT 4-TEC 215HP 200 Hours. On the steering cable, at the rear where the cable comes through the hull, the plastic Cable Lock (part #50) sheared in two such that the "nut head" is no longer attached and the "threaded part" remains threaded in the receiver (the hull). This is allowing the steering cable sheath to move freely. Thus, steering is completely messed up.

Have you experienced this? What might be the cause? Please advise. Thanks.

Happens all the time. Seadoo made an improved white version that doesn't break as easily. You can easily dig out the broken part with a small screwdriver by bending it inwards and breaking it.

Just replaced both steering and reverse cable retaining nuts on my 2003 GTX 4-Tec with brass. I have previously replaced the cables and the reverse cable was now due. I (hardheadedly) worked around the steering cable side before w/o removing the jet pump. JUST REMOVE THE PUMP and you have good access to get the repairs done. You can also check the pump bearing and wear ring. Replace parts a/r if you find any problems there. It is not difficult but has some VERY critical details such as proper reassembly, cable set-up/ adjustment, and mounting bolt and hardware torque.

The lock nut kits are inexpensive. I decided to use the brass option and sealed the threads in with red RTV (an old automotive favorite). My ski uses different size internal retainer parts although they DO look similar.

IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THESE REPAIRS, you must get help by someone with experience or just have the Dealer do it. All you really have is thrust, steering, throttle and the driver's weight distribution to control these skis, so it has to be CORRECT. I see NO EXCEPTIONS on this one, right?
