XP Limited Solas Prop.jpg

Picked up a mint 99 XP Limited today that was sitting in a guys garage where it hasn't moved for 2 or 3 years. Apparently a shop here in town changed the prop to a Solas and soon after he had it out something happened and the impellor totally destroyed the pump and housing. I've seen some weird stuff but what would have caused this kind of damage?
Somehow it moved around or something and just ate up the inner pump housing. Before I go and buy a new pump and have it do the same thing any idea as to what caused this? Thanks guys!

Is that some vegetation I see snagged there? If so...could be the root cause...heh. Check the bearings while you're in there.

That's not too bad really. If the ski has been setting the wear rings are likely to fry after a little use. I'd definitely check those bearings like the previous post mentioned though.
Couldn't tell from pic but did it damage the actual pump housing or was it just the wear ring?

im going to assume that it is what ever was jammed in there is at fault rock/stick check your drive shaft could be bent after that kind of trauma

Are the veins good? Is a OEM wear ring too loose in there now? If it fits but spins easily I would just put some set screws in.

I have both used brass and plastic 951 pumps in stock as well as OEM wear rings in stock.

Thanks guys. It actually cut into the pump housing itself. Upon further inspection there is a slice into the hull as well so I have definitely never seen that. I've seen bad wear rings look pretty chewed up but to cut into the housing and into the hull of the ski? Weird???

looks to me the pump is toast. was the impeller still secured on the pump shaft? how does the pump bearings look? shaft bent? was engine out at one time and miss-aligned? something went wrong to cause all the damage. hope you get to the bottom of it. keep us posted.
