Any reason why someone would put a 30amp fuse where the 15amp should be?

I bought a 98 Spx 800 a few months ago and now that the days have gotten longer and it’s gotten warmer out I’ve been going over it. I was messing around trying to figure out why the trim doesn’t work and noticed the fuses in the back box by the battery weren’t correct.

The fuse on the bottom is a 30amp and the one above it is a 15amp. From what I’ve read they should be half that.
Is there any reason why someone would do that other than not wanting to buy the correct fuses?
Just trying to make sure there isn’t an underlying cause that would make someone do that.

It starts up Almost immediately when cold. And when I went to look at it the first time the guy was trying to jump a dead battery while installed in the ski. Messaged me a few days later and said he had to replace the Solenoid and battery and I went back to look and it started and ran fine so I didn’t think anything of it.

First off jump starting these is a good way to fry the MPEM computer so never do that.

Second the trim modules are notorious for going bad and frying the MPEM.

My guess is the trim is bad and blowing the fuse so someone did the wrong thing and put in a larger fuse. Verify the trim is bad and either fix it or just disconnect all plugs going to it.

I know not to jump them but I showed up and he was already doing it and after he replaced the battery and solenoid it ran so I didn’t think anything of it until I noticed the fuses were double what they were sopose to be.

Trim motor is in the down position and just clicks when you push the button, so my assumption is one or both relays in the module are bad. I’ll just pull the fuse for it and put it in the main fuse spot when I get home.

sorry just being paranoid about potential hidden problems.

haha yup learned that the hard way on a rxp 215 I briefly had a few years ago. Should have pulled the supercharger to check it and didn’t.

Turned out the 30 amp was in the trim slot and 15amp was in the main slot. Dodged a bullet there.
