Hi All,

Well my last attempt at getting a ski fell trough I was scooped by ten mins. So now I have found another ski. I wanted to know what to look out for on these when buying used? Here are the details:

The add reads:

Rebuilt motor, pump, carbs runs great looks great. Has 140 hrs on hull 3 on new motor Has travel cover and 2008 shorlander trailer closest offer to 3600 cash by next weekend takes it.

Now I have negotiated a better deal of $2500.00 with life vests and brand new not installed hydro turf for it. Is this a fair price even if it was not running well? I'm assuming if I check the compression it should be close to 150 on a rebuild? Also is this a year I need to look for grey fuel lines?

Thanks in advance for all your comments you guys are great on this site. I have read many useful posts.

Here is a photo of it:

Seems alittle pricey. Find out what happened to the previous engine. Ask for paperwork on it, full rebuild, top end? Ask about his maintanance , find out what oil he is using. Test ride test ride test ride. Oh yea,
And TEST RIDE it!!!

The 97GTX is a good solid ski, no problems other than the usual stuff, grey tempo fuel lines, service oil injection system, service pump, clean rave valves. For Canada it sounds like a fair price, eh. Do a compression check and ride it before you buy it.

So I gather I should Ride it first? :biggrinjester:

But seriously thanks for the replies. I go to get it tonight we are meeting at a lake. I'm armed and dangerous with all the questions and info you have gave me. :hurray:

With any luck it will be all good and I will have my first new to me ski. It will make a good pal for my boat.

I apologize, I looked over your location. The price does seem to be in line.
Good luck, I hope you get it. I have a 97GTX and live it! It's a great stable cruiser, but still has some get up and go when you smash the throttle!

Hey no worries I wish I was close to the states we pay way too much for stuff here in Canada. The guy was asking 3500.00 for it. But I got him down to 2500.00.

if all of that work has been done, done right, and it is in fact a water-ready ski (maybe needs a pump oil change) 2500 is a decent price for that ski in the states. if the test ride and compression check are good, you should be all over it.

You will enjoy the ski. Has a great ride, you can still sling it around a bit, and it will run 55-56 flat out.

seems pricey, IMO, but i'm biased in FL. they sell for about $1600 on trailer down here... (maybe 1800 with newer engine)
i just bought the exact same ski for $400 last week, low compression tho, and idiot switched to premix but didn't loop the RV, so its getting parted out as we speak.... if you need body parts look me up ! I have everything ! (and i'll be selling hull and the core engine cheap cheap cheap in the next few days to the first local buyer I can find, i'm tired of looking at it already)

So im a proud new owner of a 1997 GTX. Thank you all for your help and info. I took it for a test drive and she is super nice. Starts and purrs like a kitten. Its in grate shape cosmetically. There is one little thing the speedo is not working. I will search the threads for a fix.

@ Spimothy Leary put me down for the speedo if yours is working I may need it if mine is pooched.
