any inputs on the candoo programer

I have one and absolutely love it. Just buy a new one you won't regret it if your a diy'er with a 4tec, also works on brp ski-doo. A must have!

The home version is limited to 4 VIN's. I have 4 seadoos for the family right now. Anyone know what happens when
I sell a machine and upgrade it with a new one? Can I cancel the old VIN out and re-enter a new VIN
to maintain my 4 VIN use or will I have to continually buy additional VIN licenses?

You will have to buy more Hins, otherwise they would never make any money. There is one exception, if you buy a brand new ECU, like from the dealer, it will come with a 000000000000HIN you have to write the exact HIN from your old boat and it will work. I did this with a 2004 sporster I had.

Yep you're 100% right. I sent an email to the company, and they confirmed what you said.

I should have asked them - or you - that if you spend the $399 for the unit and any potential additional
VIN licenses, if there is a yearly fee to maintain the software. That also has to be factored in to
the costs.

I wonder if all the "plugging" i do for them would entitle me to a free vin lol. I could use a couple, I'm just getting cheap in my old age.

Well you add $399 plus any potential purchases of additional VIN's ($99 for one or $149 for two) plus it looks like $39 per year for
the "system maintenance" (I assume this is a software license or update fee - as well I don't know yet if this is $39 PER VIN or for
your total CanDoo machine..!) you're looking at some big dollars. My local dealer charges most people ~$100 to reprogram a key
or ~$150-$200 to diagnose a machine (and I have DI's so......I see that in my future) it may work out for me anyway as I have 4-5
machines at any one time. The key now is the $39 fee - for entire machine or per VIN. That will solve the $$ issue for me anyway.

i got myself a CanDooPro like 2 months ago... i only got it for my Seadoo GTX... used it once and that's it... it save you the trip to the dealership... but that's all... does CanDooPro do the job..?? yes, it does... but im not sure if the home version is worth it or not...

i just started a campaign about the "extra" Hin numbers for the home version...

some other forum... VVV

I got my Home Edition a couple of months ago, i understand the home version come with 4 license (to work with 4 Seadoo PWC), i already use 1 for my own Seadoo, but thinking touse the other 3 with some of my friends...

Anyway, here is what i have in mind:

* to upgrade from home version to unlimited version = 1,400
* cost of additional license for home version = 100 (11 additional licenses = 1,100)

If my maths are correct:
Home version 400
11 additional licenses 1,100
------------------------------------
Total invested 1,500

Chance for another license = None, the only way to add more license to your CanDooPro is upgrading your home version to unlimited = 1,400

That mean 1,500 + 1,400 = 2,900

Question:
If we (CanDooPro Home Version owners), buy the additional licenses AFTER use all our regular home version license (4), can you guys release the unlimited version for us..???

What do you think guys...?? Isnt a good idea as a CanDooPro customer..??

not a single support from the other forum members.... that's a shame...

That math is not correct - you can buy an additional 5 VIN's for $250. That drops the cost significantly.

yeah, i know if you buy 5 vin's at once you get a discount... my point was to buy 1 by 1 at 100 bucks to do business for them and for us... because even if you buy 5 additional vin's at once and get that discount... at the end of the 15 licenses the home edition can't add more vin's...

it is also true i might never get 15 or more Seadoo machines... it is also true i might not have 15 or more friends with Seadoo machines... but it is true can be worth it to get the unlimited version after pay for the home version + 11 more vin's licenses for 100 bucks...

anyway.. is just an idea... good or bad... i think must of us will never pay for an upgrade unless you are a dealer or a Seadoo mechanic... but it is also true if they do what im proposing, they might get people buy additional license @ 100 knowing after get the home edition limit CanDooPro owners will reward customers by releasing the full version...

Oh I see your point. Sorry about the mis-interpretation. In my situation, my buddy and I constantly upgrade our own machines and buy and sell others. That max 15 Vin's will be hit in about 2-3 years tops and then I guess we'll buy another home version and start all over again.

In 3 years I figure we'll be $400 (unit) + $78 (2 x yearly fee - 1st year included with original purchase) + $500 (for 5 VIN purchases x 2 and still have 1 left over) or about $1078.

I right now had my own DI I need "plugged in" although I know what the issue is (rectifier) and another 2 machines that normally would have to go to the dealer. We did have a good buddy there that would only bite us for $50-$75 each but he left so now we'd be up to
the "civilian" rate of $115 each minimum. Right there we're at $345 not to count the fact that locally one dealer has bought out the other
dealerships and I have to wait TWO WEEKS to get the thing in, plus gas and my time. I am just receiving the Candoo this week so I hope it does what I need :)

Getting back to your idea - would I pay $100 per license to eventually get to an unlimited version? Since I would be paying another $400
for a new Home version I'd only be $200 off the Pro version so I think in my own case I'd say yes.

yeah... i mean... im not saying i can't pay for the upgrade for the unlimited... would be hard YES... but not impossible... however, i think not all people can spend 400 + additional license + upgrade to unlimited after they finish the 15 licenses...

for those who want to do a good investment... why not standard the licenses to 100 busck each knowing you will be reward with the unlimited after buy the other 11 additional to complete the limited 15...

SnowCity.com shop charge 35 bucks to delete the MAINT light... price seems to be very accessible to me... however, as you said, is a waste of time... gas money and any other risk that involve to do this trip to the dealer... that's why i got my CanDooPro...

anyway, offer "diagnostic" services to strangers can be a possibility... YES, it does... but that's not my primary interest to get the unlimited... how about to help a member of this forum by checking his/her Seadoo for any faults..?? or just simply clear the MAINT light... for FREE... trust me... i would do it...

anyway... if somebody else is interested to support this.... speak up... maybe CanDooPro designers hear us.... sounds like a business for them... and definitely for us too..!!!!

I wonder if a "standardized" $100 a VIN is seen as being too close to a dealer's charge so most people would just say
to heck with it and go to a dealer - in other words overpriced by Candoo? Again them not seeing convenience, time etc
being a factor either..

Did you know, CanDooPro need to be activate with them by giving them your serial number..???

Well, they keep a customer record for activation and for the yearly maintenance pack... Also you need to give your serial number at the moment to buy additional license for home edition and well, practically for anything else....

Ayway, simple as keep record of people buying 1 by 1 license at 100 bucks ==>> at the end, reward with the unlimited... And for those who are not interested for upgrade to unlimited and wish to save money by buying 2 or 5 licenses at once ==>> not allow to get the unlimited version at the end of the limited of 15...

Anyway.. Like i said... Is just an idea to reward good customers... It might never happen... But its just an ideal.... I know some people just look to do business...

Cheers..!!!

do you guys know if i could activate the vts with candoo?

So far I have only used in on a DI model and the activation section makes no mention of VTS. I quickly checked documentation
on a carb model and didn't see it there either so the likely answer is no.
