Another oil question..

So, my '90 SP came with a couple of gallons of the Bombardier 2 cycle oil. I was surprised to see that it was the same color as regular engine oil. I forgot to bring it to the lake with me today, so hit up Wal-Mart and got some Pennzoil synthetic 2 cycle marine oil "recommended for all marine applications and manufacturers" blah blah blah...

Can I mix the two together? I haven't put any in my 'Doo yet, I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to hurt anything.

I wouldnt mix to much of it. Make sure the oil you bought is api-tc low ash

Yeah, it says low ash. But Im still not sure I want to use it.

You can use whatever you want as long as it meets OEM specs. Being an older machine you can run regular dyno oil two stroke.

When it comes to mixing oils together, its usually best if avoided. Ive heard cases of them not mixing well and turning to gel. Thats a big fail.

Ill keep the mixing part in mind. I'll wait till I get pretty low to use it. On another note, should I be running premium fuel? Ours is around 93 octane. Regular is 87? I think.

On that machine you could probably run 87. But I try to suggest 89 or 91. Gotta watch some places you get premium fuel, if they dont sell a lot you end up with half a tank of water.

My advice is....

NEVER mix different brands of 2 cycle oils..... EVER !!!!!!

Unlike automotive oils... the additives don't always work together. There is a real issue of 2-stroke oils turning to jello when mixed. Also... the oil most wal-mart's sell is TC-w3 oil. DO NOT use that in your seadoo. Very few wal-mart's sell QuickSilver PWC oil, and I know for a fact that the Penzoil 2-stroke oil that wal-mart sells is a TC-w3.

The money saved is not worth loosing an engine over.

I agree 100% you are better off making the drive back home or finding a seadoo dealer to purchase the same kind. The extra hassle could save you a rebuild on your engine and believe me you dont want to do that i am in the process of rebuilding an 89 seadoo sp and it sucks
Do yourself a favor and dont mix oil

I did look at it again. It is the tc-w3. That answers my question. Glad I didn't mix it. Thanks for the input everyone!
