Greetings again friends,

I am getting closer to getting my 96 Challenger (Rotax 787) in the water and I am wondering about greasing the PTO. I HAVE read some of the other posts but I was left a little baffled. I have tried to lube it already but something isnt right....

So I took the plastic PTO cover off and found the grease zirk(sp) at the engine/PTO end of the drive shaft. I after one pump i noted that a very small amout of grease came out of the rubber boot nearest the zirk I was greasing.....

I was under the impression that grease should travel down the shaft from the engine/PTO end to the jet drive end and begin to slightly expand the rubber bellows there since there is no zirk there at that end.

I am wondering if maybe the ziptie on the boot (engine/PTO end) is too loose and not allowing the grease to push its way towards the jet drive.... Or maybe I am getting something really wrong...

Please help friends,

Your doin it right. The shaft is solid. The bellowed end is your carbon seal. The bellows push the seal towards the shaft creating a seal.

Wow that was ultra fast!! Thank you.... So just to be thorough. The Jet drive end bellows does not require greasing --OR-- do I have to take the boot off and grease manually or....

Can you post a pic to be positive?..I can see how your confused. There are threads on how to detect a air leak by pulling the carbon seal back and putting grease on the face. If I remember right carbon seals came out in 97, you say yours is a 96.

But basically, if there is no grease zerk , then there is no grease required. The shafts are solid.
