The speedo in my Challenger 2000 quit working the first season I owned it (going into my third season with the boat now). I have had problems with every 'normal' speedo I've ever had on a boat, whether pitot or paddlewheel, so I started looking for alternatives. Originally my plan was simply to buy a cheap handheld gps, mount it where I could see it and be done with it, but when I started searching I discovered the new generation of replacement gps based speedometers. Most were Upwards of $300 or more, but I stumbled on the Andytach product for $145 for the size that would directly replace the unit in my C2K. Ordered it online and received it very quickly (such a pleasure to order from a company right here in Canada!). Install was extremely easy; the unit mounts exactly the same way as the original; screw the backing ring off the oem unit, unplug the wiring connector, remove, replace with the new unit, connect power and ground (I used male spades into the original plug for simplicity), mount the gps antenna (I mounted mine just in front of the driver's windscreen) and run the cable back under the storage bin under the windscreen to the back of the speedo, and done. The unit has a black outer ring like the original gauges, but has a black face. Still looks very good in the panel.
I only have about 10 minutes of running so far, but initial impressions are great; seems very responsive to changes in speed, and started reading as soon as I started moving, right down to walking pace. The unit displays speed, "odometer" and direction. I like it, and it was no more expensive than replacing the original sensor, was easier to do, and will provide more information with greater accuracy than the original. Not to mention eliminating the recurring failures that the original unit provides on a regular basis. So far so good!
If you want more info, you can find them on ebay or on their own website at www.andytach.com. No, I have no direct or indirect connection to this company other than paying full price for their product.
