Well I have searched the forum and I am still a little confused on anchors. What anchor is best for a lake with a fairly hard bottom? I think it is mosly clay.

Also what is the best way to stow the anchor while underway so that it is not bouncing around?

My boat is a 2008 Challenger 180SE...I am a new owner so bring on the advice.

Thanks!

For a simple cheap anchor your best bet with a hard bottom will likely be a Danforth style. If you're worried about it bouncing around, pick up a duffel bag that will fit it along with the rope.

Also remember when using a anchor you must use enough rope. The recommended rope length to depth is 5:1. This means in twenty feet of water you need one hundred feet of rope, so keep that in mind.

There is one fairly new style on the market that I have heard great things about, but have not used (I waaaay to cheap). It's called the Box Anchor, and it's made by Slide Anchor. Here's a Youtube video of it.

interesting. But it looks like its for a sand bottom.

I have a mushroom, and a Danforth. I've never used them because my boat is small enough that I just go to shore when I want to relax.

Either way... they beat around in the hull... so as said above... pack it in a duffel with a bunch of rope to help.
