Got a full rebuild on the 99 GTX LTD....goes great! Broke in on the weekend. Went to flush the thing when finished (out of the water) and the thing was ok for 30 seconds the revved the crap out of itself. Stopped water, pulled choke, it settled down but when I put the choke back in it revved the crap out of itself again. Pulled choke and stalled it.
Rang the "rebuilder" and he says that alot of 947-951 motors-2 stroke will do this out of the water and because the motor is new the comp is high so this is to be expected. He said that when out of the water it will rev itself right up if left alone.

Does this sound right???

What is happening is the engine has unburned fuel in the cylinders. It is reacting like a RC,(radio control) car. They run on glow plugs. What happens the glow plugs get hot and keep firing the fuel, that's what happening. If you pull the choke it gets more fuel and cools down the combustion chamber and it will stall. When you run it on the hose just let it idle so it won't get too hot or run away with the rpm's.

reving so high I can't flush!!

Thanks for the response. The problem I've got is that I can't let it idle out of the water to flush it because within 30 odd seconds it starts to rev right out. How do I flush the ski out properly without it reving up to the point of destroying the new motor.

It sounds like you have an air leak around the intake area of the engine. remove the air box ans spray some wd-40 around the gasket area on the intake. Leave the spark arrester in place for safety reasons. The rpm's should raise with the wd-40 finds a air leak.

i'm having the same problem. the engine just revs itself to redline out of water. on the lake it iddles at around 2000 rpms.

i'm leaning towards an air leak on a hose somewhere.

idling away all good!!!

Hi Guys
Thanks for all your help on this issue BUT the reason the GTX ideled all the way up is because someone had the fuel valve set to the off position when on the trailer?????

Man....yep....I'm a dump ass!!!!

All is great now....engine broken in and she pulls beautifully in the water!!!

We got a 2009 vx cruiser for the wife and the Seadoo leaves that thing in it's wake!!

Really pleased. Thanks for all your help!!
