Am i in for big problems?

Now I think about it, your doing this for a friend? When you get done are they gonna put it back on the makeshift ramp and leave it there? I don't know if I'd do all of that just to see it go to waste. Maybe yall should send it to me. I'll take real good care of it and it will never have a problem again.

Our cats don't drink gas. Yep that stuff sucks but at least we are no longer dependent on foreign oil and gas is cheap. Glad we took a giant leap back in fuel efficiancy too.

I'm sick of replacing injectors in the 4 stroke outboard motors. I've gotten kinda good at it. I charge an arm and a leg to do it. So don't do many. I meant catalytic converters. I could less where our oil comes from. It will run out one day. I used to work in the oil field. It sucks!

golfballtech - You are doing a lot of work for your buddy....you should just offer him $500 and keep it.

Just to agree about Seafoam....here is a quote from Dr Honda.....

Seafoam opinion by Dr. Honda
Yes... I have an opinion on Seafoam. NEVER use a pour in solvent in a 2-stroke engine!!!!
Think about it. If it can clean... it will mess up the oiling.

I know you were talking about the catalytic converters, I was just giving you cr@p. Sucks about the fuel though, so frustrating...

Excellent info. Learn something new every day. Will pull tank when i pull carb and call the seafoam a very thorough tank cleaning solvent. :-)

I was thinking the same about buying the ski. If i do everything short of re-building the ski and it doesnt run. He can keep it. If i get it running i will offer him 5 or 6 hundred (which is what i would have been willing to volunteer for it as it sat) and just have a new toy. The wife and i are trying to decide if we want two small ski's and my 4 year old can pick who to ride with or if we want to get one 3 seater for stability....

Way i see it, i can get this guy running then flip it for a little extra cash so even if a bigger ski is the choice i have some cash to throw down on it.

So far i only have 100 bucks into this investment. Will order the carb kit tomorrow i think.

Thank everyone for your information.... will look into the grey hoses mikidymac.

had no idea you were doing this on the 'if come' but let me say this... right now the ski is worth $500 all day long, at this point you can't lose a penny on the deal. I'd make the offer to him now, then get it running, you can sell it in the high 2's fairly easy, maybe more if you have a hard vs soft market in Louisiana, summer is here and prices are up. mine sold for $2750 with less than 1K invested including a new seat. I felt much less guilty (bought mine from a friend as well) offering $750 when it wasn't running and worth no more than that, then offering less after it was running, when i would have known for sure it was worth 2 or 3 times my offer.

With a young child, ya your better off with two ski's or a big 3 seater, depends on how much "fun" you want to have, but this ski will run really nice, carves very well, and has plenty of power to get you to the 60mph range with no mods. and with a prop swap you can jump that up 8-10%. but this is NOT a great ski for 2 riders in my opinion, but its a good ski for a passenger, just not great... certainly i've ridden two up on it, but its not as well suited for passengers as other models are like the GTX.

you'll have to decide whether or not this suits you and your family, and don't buy a 2nd ski unless you know for sure your wife wants to be an operator, vs passenger (my wife decided after two rides that she prefers to sit on the back and enjoy, vs being the driver) and also storing two ski's and a double trailer add another factor, mainly storage, i very much prefer to keep my ski's in the garage locked up and safe from bad guys and bad weather, and a double trailer takes up most of the garage, a single trailer will still sit nicely next to a car in a your standard 20x22 garage.

If I had a job I'd buy it. I want an extra 1 seater for my kids to ride. I have a 3 seater. Never will put 3 people on it again. Spent more time climbing back on than riding. LOL. I agree with Spimothy Leary. I know you were giving me crap mikidymac. I expect it here. LMAO. What ever you do to the ski, good luck. Sometimes they are more of a pain than it's worth. Just like a vehicle.

You need to undestand that this ski IS NOT a 2 seater. You and your wife will not be able to get on it without a lot of frustration. You and your kid will be fine but with a 4 year old I would look into a three seater. This would be the perfect second ski to a three seater and is one of the best hulls seadoo made in my opinion. I would offer the guy $500 now, fix it the correct way and look for a cheap three seater. If you do get the engine apart and lets say it is locked up solid you can still part the ski out on ebay for more than the $500 you paid. You might just need to make a stand like you seem to be thinking, if it starts for under $100 buy it and if not walk. I have a 2 year old and he falls a sleep almost every time we are out on the three seater. It is perfect for him and the wife but I am already looking for andother XP.

I understand what you guys are saying and maybe i didn't give enough information.

There are two possible options.

1. Get 2 Ski's. This one and 1 other. The other would be either a 2 or 3 seater and more family oriented. The wife doesn't mind driving at all.

2. Sell this ski in favor of a family sized ski (or small boat really).

In either of these two situations the ski's would probably be more so to get people from the landing to a sand bar or some central gathering point. Then to take off and go play. I understand the concerns with riding 2 people on something like an XP but it will be to get from A to B then someone will unload so 1 at a time can take off and have fun. Our typical ride to gathering place is 15 minutes or so from the landing so it won't be too bad for a commute with me and the kid.

If all else fails (and until we find a second ski) we can get the family already gathered to jump in a boat and pick up whomever is left..... or make two trips.

Even though i haven't had much experience working on ski's i have had many hours on the seat of them. Ran a business with my dad when i was younger. We had 3 Tigershark jetski's that we spent every weekend out with for a good long time.

Good point on the 500. Will speak to Rodney today and see what he would be willing to take to part with it before i press the button. Guilt isn't really a concern of mine..... So i will not have shame offering him a reduced price because of the state i received the ski. Obviously he is not concerned with losing money on the deal simply looking at the position of the ski when i received it......anyone that worried wouldn't have let it sit there for so long withering away.

Will keep you guys up to date on the status of the project.

Still going to be a bit before i get my card kit and all that good stuff here and ready to be used.

Any suggestions on good dealers to buy these things from?

I've looked and looked and looked. It all depends on where you live and etc: I've found many that were least expensive but shipping was up there. Then some expensive ones and shipping was free. I get mine from someone on another forum. He is out of California.
