Air filters?
No, I don't believe there is any marine application that uses the standard air breathing filter system that you'd see in a car per se. Probably because there's not much chance of picking up sand from the road as you drive.......
Most, if not all, marine intake systems have a flame arrester, made in many different ways. My 787 uses a stainless mess screen at the intake of the carbs. This is to prevent a fire in the engine compartment in the event there is fuel present and my engine backfires.
I didn't see a flame arrestor in the 4 TEC engine but there is a lot of distance between the intake and the supercharger, referred to as a silencer.
I hope this answers your question.
