I was hoping to get the ski on the water for the first time this weekend. I purchased it a few weeks ago and have done a lot to it, including fresh top end.

The previous owner did the oil bypass but only hooked up an oil line from the one side to the other (see image below).

So before I put it in the water I wanted to hook it back to the tank and clean out the existing oil to replace it with new.

The elbow on the oil pump side was up against the intake, pinching the hose between the intake and elbow. So while trying to get the old line off the elbow BROKE!!!! :reddevil:

no riding for this weekend. :(

The elbow was so short I am thinking it was not OE. The existing elbow seams to be a cast metal with little strength. I was wondering if anyone has replaced the elbow with something from the hardware store; either brass or galvanized steel.... instead of an elbow can it be a straight fitting? Or should I just locate the OEM part, pull the motor and replace it with original?

I really don't want to pull the engine out or pull the intake and carbs; but it looks like I no longer have a choice.

You can. it's 1/4 NPT... but be careful threading in the new one. You don't want to crack the thin wall of the engine case. (that's why they are thin aluminum from the factory)

Thanks.... So now I need to find a 1/4 NPTm to 1/2 barb preferable aluminum....
