adjusting carb linkage

I am rebuilding the carbs on my gsx. When reassembling I realized I am not sure if the link that connects the carbs is adjusted correctly. I broke the link and replaced it, but am not positive that it is exactly correct. How do you adjust it? Bolt on carbs and try to look down the venturies with a mirror? I searched and looked at the carb tuning sticky but could not find the answer.

Normally you should back the idle stop screw all the way out until you can confirm the throttle blade is completely closed, then adjust the linkage until both blades are closed. you can also slowly open the primary carb & watch to see if they both open at the exact same time after your adjustment. Then turn the idle screw back in and adjust you idle speed back up to 2800-3K on the trailer

Well this might be a bit of overkill, but I actually own one of these, I've had it for years, I honestly didn't know they still made them. I bought it originally for my Triumph TR4A, I've used it on motorcycles, a Corvair (4 carbs.), and even on my SeaDoo's. It measures air flow.

Lou, When I started working on seadoo's, one of my fits was "sync'ing the carbs" On all the carb'd snowmobiles & street bikes I have ever worked on, they all have vacuum ports on the carbs & they all get synchronized based on vacuum. While I have accepted seadoo's method of just setting the plates & the low speeds the same, a vacuum adjust would be best without any question.

How does that kit work/attach? Not much information on the website.

It just fits over the throat of the carb. and measures air flow, very simple and very accurate. Originally they were made for SU carbs. but it will fit most small carbs. It's also adjustable to in will work on downdraft, side draft and up draft carbs. Ya know I should be selling these things.

You're right, it's nice but it's overkill! :) I just back the idle screw out then hold the throttle plates closed while adjusting the play out of the linkage. ie: first I intentionally introduce play then adjust it back out one at a time, leaving all the throttle plates so they fully close together at the same time.

I like it! can you post some pictures of the kit some time?

I have a GSXR carb'd that has 4 carbs. I rebuilt them a couple years ago & initially the thing would barely idle, hesitations off idle, etc. Put my synchronizer on & even though all my initials were set the same, they were off by a lot in terms of vacuum. As I adjusted, I could here the change in the engine big time. Its a bit of a PITA with 4 carbs, but once done its absolutely night & day on that type of engine. It idles & re-starts sooooo smooth. While not as critical, I have to believe getting a pair of carbs dialed in would improve the idle quality. I had considered drilling & tapping vacuum ports in the carbs, so I could adjust them with the air box installed. But never bothered.

I don't have the kit, just the tool, I haven't owned a British sports car for some time.
