hey guys just picked up a 98 xp with the 951 and it has the grey fuel lines. so im gonna swap them out and clean the carbs. i have done this on my 96xp before but the 951 seems alot different. the exhaust pipe seems like its in the way. does it have to come out? or can i work around it? also if i have to take it out. should i put any locktight on the bolts and if so what kind?

also i have read that i need 1/4 and 5/16 fuel line.. does anyone know how much of each?

thanks so much guys

i believe its like 14' of 5/16 and like 8' of 1/4.
but i'll let others confirm, in the meantime i'm willing to gamble with my edu-ma-kated guess, its been awhile since I did an xpl, like 2 years.

, i've only done it twice and both times the pipe was out, but the lines you need are on the carb side arent't they? (meaning the airbox comes off not the pipe) who else has done this ?

i do remember that the seat has to come off, well, i think you can leave the shock in, and just take the front off and move it sideways

edit: google says 11 feet of 1/4 and 10 feet of 5/16,... subscribed... !

here's the google link I found , it appears to be a nice write up.

I would pull the carbs and at least inspect them. with them out of the way running the lines will be easier, and you can confirm the carbs are ok.

the XP has rather short runs for the lines.

I'd say 14' of 5/16 and 5' of 1/4" (you want some left over, not to come up short, as driving back to the part store cost more than wasting a foot of line)

the 1/4" is the return line and pulse line.

I don't bother with the vent lines or the line from the water reg, since it's a tempo, but it only carries water.

You have to remove the carbs to do the pulse line and line between the carbs. So.. yea remove them.

Clean the carb filters too.

YOU DO NOT have to remove the pipe to remove the carbs. on any 951 ski.

the XP is one of the easier ones to work on actually. I think they designed it that way for racing.

I'm considering putting a fram filter on my 2 better ski's, they are like $4.00 I want those engines to last for years.
