I Decided to part ways with my 92 XP & SP. So to make showing them a little easier I decided to leave them out on the driveway on the trailer. We had a large thunderstorm Saturday night & in the morning I was outside & noticed the footwells on the SP were full to the top with rain water, & the XP, had next to nothing. I was puzzled for a moment until I pulled the seat off the XP & realized the water was now in the hull. Not just a little.

It became obvious that the water gets though the footwell pad rivets as the SP does not have them. I am sure many of you know this happens, but it was a surprise to me. I am guessing my other skis with rivets will also leak there as both of them have riveted foot pads.

On the older skis... yep... they can leak.

FYI... when you have them siting... leave the rear plug out. That way... any rain that gets in... can drain right out.

I guess its odd that I never thought about it before, but somewhat of a dumb design IMO. Its funny becasue when I bought the ski, it had lost a piston & the P.O. took the cylinder off, then it sat in his back yard for a year before I bought it. I couldn't use any of the engine because it was destroyed from sitting in water. I couldn't help but wonder why he didn't just put the seat back on to keep water out of the hull. Now I know what really happened.....

So what happens when one of these "leaky" footwell skis sit tied up to a dock overnight? I am assuming they are going to fill up with water if it rains hard, or if waves keep water in the foot wells..... Hhhhmmmmm.

yip,,, only way to fix it is to pull the turf, seal the rivets, put on new turf... $80 fix....includes the pre-requisite 3 beers.
