Can I trust the oil injection system on my seadoo never owned one before just usually little leery about anything oil injected, just wondering if it is really reliable or should I mix my own gas? Thank you

The pump is reliable. Previous owner probably wasn't

If you want to keep you must go through it and change the little oil lines coming from intake. They are known to crack and fail thus causing failures.

Otherwise remove gear and pump and put block off plate.
Leave oil take in to provide oil to RV gear.

Hope that answers question

I am now in the process of rebuilding my 96 gtx due to oil pump failure, mix your oil and fuel and save yourself the headache and worry about the pump.

Can you confirm it was definitely the pump that failed? Or did something else in the lubrication system fail (cracked oil line, bad throttle linkage, etc.)?

I would second this. The pump is reliable and it is very rare that you hear about a pump that failed. To me, it is more of a PITA to premix. You will burn more oil, go through more plugs, smoke more, and have to deal with hauling your own gas around if you are trailering your ski(s).

The other parts of the system are generally what fails on people, but that is only if they neglect the ski. If you regularly take a look at the oil lines and make sure you are not leaking anywhere, change your filter every couple years and the small injection lines, then you would be 99% safe.

Just make sure you are running an API-TC rated full synthetic.

And, if you do decide to block off your pump and go pre-mix, contrary to what ocod said, you have a 947/951 in your 99 XP and don't have to worry about supplying oil to a rotary valve; you have a reed valve engine and not a rotary one.

snap.
I pulled a lou on another 951 engine.
good heads up on year. sorry OP

I resemble that remark, I guess "pulled a Lou", so now I'm not only famous, I'm infamous, like El Quappo.:redface::lol:

Anyway I agree keep the oil pump, there's a lot more reasons to keep it than to get rid of it.

haha lou jk.
I was crap a 951...

thats what my mechanic said happened , when I looked over it before we tore it down I had no oil leaks or cracked lines that we could see and the linkage seemed fine. the only thing that had changed since the last time i took it out was I changed from pennzoil to seadoo oil . But from what everyone around here has told me they say the oil pumps are a big problem and to do away with , but everyone has a right to their own opinion I guess.Hope this helps you out.

So did you figure it was just changing your 2 cycle mix

That could be the problem, changing from Penzoil, the Penzoil might not have been compatible with the SeaDoo oil. What happens the oils can jell and clog the lines and filter, resulting in little of no lubrication. With your engine you should be running full synthetic, API-TC rated. To my knowledge Penzoil doesn't make a full synthetic API-TC oil.

Did you clean the oil system out of all the old oil before adding the seadoo oil? You may be to blame for your engine going for the reasons Lou stated. Some oils just don't mix and congeal.

And, it looks like you were using the wrong oil to begin with (Pennzoil) so your engine was not happy with you already. To second Lou, I am also pretty sure that you were using a TC-W3 oil, which is not compatible with your engine.
