I bought this ski a few weeks ago and after searching the forum I really want to change it cosmetically. At this point I have sprayed down the inside of the hull with some simple green and sprayed everything down to get the gunk off. That worked pretty well. That's about it for the inside for now.

It was pretty dirty when I brought it home but did about 4 hours worth of cleaning to come up with this:

Next, I ordered some Hydro-Turf today so its time to peel off the old stuff. I drilled all the rivets out and champhered all the holes to resist cracks. I plan to polish the foot wells next before the Hydro-Turf in installed:

I am now looking for a seat cover I like and a new grab handle because this one is sun faded. I am stuck on the seat, I cant figure out how to get the shock disconnected from the seat. Any suggestions?

I am going to be pulling the graphics and having some custom ones made and a few more little things. Hopfully have it back together in a few weeks for another ride.

That grab handle isn't bad at all, I would just buff it out with meguiars medium cut cleaner. There is a thread on it somewhere on here.

As for the seat, I just unbolted the entire assembly from inside the ski. You can remove the rubber covers and get to the bolts through the rear hatch. You also need to remove the front pivot points.

Today I got the seat off and filled the holes from the stock mats, then I started pulling the graphics off. One thing I found is the whole shock area seams beat. There are marks on the seat shock mount, the fiberglass has some damage and there is oil in the lower shock mount. Does this mean the shock is bad? The seat cover has been replaced, could the shock have been put on upside down from the last owner?

Did a little more tonight. All taped off for the polishing tomorrow. Still trying to figure out the shock situation. Anyone with any ideas? How level do I need to make the epoxy for where the new mats go? I ordered the Hydro-Turf with PSA. Do I need to sand down the little bumps of epoxy?

Who knows what happened there. On the hull, it almost looks like the shock came loose and landed on the hull cracking the fiberglass when it was being ridden. Shock is on correctly, you can check the parts microfiche for questions like that. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche...e=seadoopwc&a=106&b=22&c=0&d=-SEAT-SUSPENSION

I just tried to smooth mine out as much as possible as the epoxy dried a little and then lightly sanded. I don't think you'll feel those through the turf either way.

Thanks, looking at the fiche it was installed correctly. The oil in the lower mount makes me think its blown. Not sure if I should take my chances and buy a use one and hope its better then mine or just run this one.

I'm pretty sure I have a shock for a 98. Yours for shipping cost if interested. I think I literally kept every piece I could remove from that ski when I parted it out and it's just taking up attick space lol.

If you think it's still good I will take it. If you find it pm me your PayPal address and a price. Thanks.

Finished polishing the top today. Going to do the bottom tomorrow. I have new Hydro-turf and a seat cover on the way. Still trying to figure out the graphics.

I got to the bottom of the busted up shock area under the seat. I still have the number of the previous owner. I asked him if anything had ever happened with the seat or shock under the seat. He told me two years ago he had the seat cover redone because a large branch had fallen on the seat of the ski. The only damage he saw was the seat cover so he had that fixed. I am guessing the branch over compressed the shock, made it leak oil and damage the fiberglass and shock mount on the seat. Well that solves that mystery. I am still waiting on parts so today I finished up polishing the bottom. I had a storage setup with a hoist for my old 96 XP that came in handy to polish the bottom. I gave it a bath and now its time to clean up all the messes I made in the barn and garage from polising while I wait on the turf, seat cover and graphics.

You do realize that those 2x4 roof trusses were never designed to support that ski, correct? Please be careful.

It's fully reinforced and the outside wall is doing most of the work. It held my 96 XP every winter for 5 years. The straps are to keep it straight and just in case.

Congrats on the purchase. Here's my method for the rivet holes. Then I just shave the top off with a straight blade.

Love the Mini Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best sled in the fleet:D

That's cool. How do you get the round holes in the tape? I driped it into each hole with a small screw driver and tried to keep the pile below the deck but my plan did not work on all the holes.

About the MiniZ, we had two but it's funny. They would rather tie a sled behind one and go all day. If they rode their own they were done in an hour. So I sold one. Lol

Those sleds are awesome. Never knew they made small ones. Here in Cali we never see them and I have never even sat on one.

I did find it no, no signs of leaking. My grab handle is in as bad or worse shape than yours. Pm me your address for the shock.

That's is a low end sled shock I believe. Probably off a Formula 583 sled, LOL. I laughed the first time I saw the one on my HX
