I let a heavier friend ride mine and he attempted to get on it for at least an hour and kept dumping it over while trying to board it, mostly on the right side. Well it ended up filling my motor with water. Alot of water! needless to say i was thinking the left side is the way to tip it if need be since the pipes on the right.

Is there a wrong way to tip these over?

mine does 55-60mph. whats the average top speed for a 951 xpl?

They will run into the low 60's if everything is good. If you are getting to 60, and the engine/pump has some time on it... sounds OK to me.

First thing... get the water out FAST. If you let it sit with water in the engine... you will kill it.

As far as "is there a right way to fall off"... not really since falling normally means something went wrong.

The spring seat XP's are tippy. There is no way around it. If your buddy is big... then he needs to learn to balance better. (not being harsh, it's the truth) BUT... this is why the big 3 seat hulls are so popular... and anymore... there isn't a narrow, deep V hull.

hes falling off while trying to get on from the back. hes a big boy and was actually never able to ride it. If he tries to get on and it tips alot is it better to have him tip to one side or the other? is it normal for it to fill with water if its been on its side alot? The motor is a sbt motor and has very low hours, I got the water out as soon as i realized that was the problem. then i rode a half tank through it to be sure.

Yea you'll get water in the hull, if you ran a half tank of gas after you're O.K. I personally don't let anyone ride my ski's unless they can ride with me first.

Yep... since you rode it... you are fine.

The spring seat XP's seem to take on water quicker than other skis, since they have that little hatch behind the seat. Make sure the seal on that door is good.

As far as Lou's comment. I let EVERYONE ride my junk. That's why I have old skis. I don't have much $$$ into them... and it's funny as hell to watch people fall off them. That's why I keep a stand up around. People are always curios about it... and I make it look easy. Then when I let a buddy try it... they can't, and spend most of the time in the water. (good times)

I think I would feel different if I spent $10k on a new ski.

Here's me with my 64 year old Mother... and after I got home... I realized than my 17 year old nephew, and his girl friend fell off of my XP directly behind us. (made a good pic) My mother and I laughed our asses off watching 2 people trying to reboad an X4 in deep water. (took them a good 20 minutes)

Yes, water entering a ski when flipped is normal.

There shouldn't be a problem tipping over in either direction as long as there is no water in the hull. Once the ski has flipped, you have to turn the ski in one particular direction to keep water out of the engine. There should be a sticker on the rear of the vehicle which describes the direction you must flip the ski to re-right it.

If you keep flipping it over an over without draining the hull, then yes...falling off and flipping in one direction will be better than the other. Use your sticker as guidance as to what side. This is sort of telling you the best way to do something bad, though. If it were me, I would not let my buddy continue to flip my ski over. Also, if you don't drain the water out after everytime he flips it, you are just making it harder and harder for him to actually balance it.

My opinion is that you should not let your big friend ride your ski. The XP is not a large man's ski, especially if the rider is inexperienced.

yea, I didnt think it would be a problem as it was only going on its right side and not actually upside down. I dont think the water entered from the hull, there wasnt much water in the hull. i think it was entering from the exhaust.

my theory was the muffler is on the left so it filled up.. then the ski was getting tiped to the right so it was sending the water up the pipe.

He wanted to try again the next day, but he tried 5 times and gave up. I dont think he likes the xp too much:mad:

I'm about 245 Lbs... and it takes balance for me to get on a spring seat XP. Heck... It's rough getting on my X4 XP.

If he is bigger than 250... then he needs at least an GSX type 2 seater to ride. Or better yet... a 3 seater. Seems to me... if he could get a ride... he would be hooked. You should find a rental shop close to you, and let him ride something with some size.

^What he said. I saw some a lady at the lake fall off a 3 seater who was easily 300lbs reboard successfully. It's all about balance.
