I bought a 1999 GTS and when I tested it in the lake it started right up, no choke, idle perfect, drives perfect... go to accelerate and it almost dies. same point every time when the throttle is about 1/3 the way down. So i had a new carb kit put in and changed out the gas. During the tank test afterwards, it was found that the thing would run perfect if the fuel selector was in the RESERVE position, I ran it for almost 7 hours yesterday in this manner.

Also the fuel gauge does not work.

Any thoughts ?

The pickup tube, or fuel select valve are plugged up.

Most of the problems with a fuel gauge is that the float will sink. Pull the baffle, and check the float. If it's an old foam float... replace it with a new style blow molded float.

... So we found two problems, we pulled out the fuel tank and pulled the baffle out and the bottom had fallen off of it so the end that was down in the fuel tank was completely open. we replaced it and tested but there was still a blockage, found to be in the fuel selector petcock. There is a rubber 'sleeve' inside that had plugged the 'ON' side of the selector switch. Changed the petcock and now everything works as it should.

Thanks for your response to my issue.
