hello
i just bought a 99 gtx from local auction. it is really clean. however the key is missing. what options do i have on the budget to see if it runs or make a key?
i see i can buy can doo pro for $400 buy a key and program it. im looking for a cheaper way. i can also take to my local shop pay $100 plus key and have it made but they are booked 3 weeks out.

Unfortunately, you don't have many other options:

1) the DESS key is programmed to the MPEM...if the MPEM doesn't recognize the key, the ski won't start. The "right" key should cause the ski to chirp TWICE once the DESS key is installed.
2) The only way to program a key to a ski is through the CanDoo system.....you'll basically need to wipe out the mpem memory and re-program a new key into its memory.
3) you could try to buy an aftermarket mpem without the DESS function enabled...but that's a crap shoot

You can see if it'll try to start by shorting the solenoid posts together....BUT you'll need to start with a good battery first. Shorting the posts will apply battery power directly to the starter so the engine should try to turn over.

You can also send the MPEM to Westside Powersports Seadoo nad get a new key programmed for $80.

Westsidepowersports has a quick turn around, he even has DESS lanyards there with him if you need it provided. Call him and send the MPEM, bout the quickest and cheapest option I think you'll find.

The Candoo Pro is nice, I have one, but only makes sense if you have a couple skis and want to do more than just program a DESS lanyard.
