99 gsx starting issue

Hi, need some help here guys. I have a 99 gsx rfi with 125 hours on it and in great shape. It will start right up when cold but once it gets hot, it’s a bear to start. I have to hold the throttle half way to full open to get it to start. Once it starts it runs great. I’ve been told the rotary valve needs adjusting. Any suggestions on what it could be?

First I would change your fuel filters on that RFI, they are in the tank.

Then I would check compression.

There is nothing to adjust on the rotary valve. When the clearance gets too big from wear they get hard to start. To fix it you have to buy a resurfaced cover and new valve. The clearance measurement process is in the manual.

Ok I’ll do some checking thank you. The machine only has 125hrs on it, you think the valve would be wore out already?

You never know, what oil was used?

The guy I bought it from was the original owner and he said he always uses the Sea-Doo oil but I’m just taking his word for it.

Then at those hours your rotary valve should be ok.

If it's the Seadoo good stuff, synthetic low ash, from what I've read anyways. Personally I use Motul 800, gallons at a time to bring cost down. LT500 uses 927 Castor, plane (Rotax) Amsoil Interceptor, about as detuned as they can make them, 6400rpm max. pathetic.

PS- been awhile but maybe Seadoo only has the good stuff, even with the less expensive Miki is right. A marginal ignition coil will breakdown at higher engine temps and stock carbs bolting to the engine doesn't help with heat transfer to carbs. Could be carb or RV cover having less than perfect seal that expands or carbs adjusted toward the lean side. Be the pit bull and don't let go till you find the problem. Lee
