So my challenger 1800 used to full out at 55mph...but now...not so much! It used to have this really cool high pitched rotax engine sound
Now it maxes out at 45mph. both engines rpm at around 7000, and no more high pitched rotax engine sound. I notice no difference in top end between 3/4 throttle and full throttle. No change in revs. The port engine throttle moves really easily through the rpm range, but the rpm does not seem to translate into extra thrust. When I turn hard to port, the boat really slows down...turns to starboard have slowed but not as much. Also to keep the boat running straight, I have to give it more left throttle...at 35mph as much as 1000rpm more.
Last summer, we discovered that we backed into some small stones with that port engine when we fired it up and heard a margarita like blender sound. Some small stones were bouncing around between the impeller and the nozzle. I noticed some of the tines were broken. We cleared the stones out and visually checked the impeller...no nicks or gashes.
We replace the plugs at the start of this season, she fired up right away...RAVE valves are nice and clean.
so....is it likely my little backing incident has caused all of this to happen and should she rev higher than 7000rpm under load?
