98 xp wont turn off

98 xp would not shut off with switch, once battery was dead it stopped. This happened to my son so the story may not be acurate. I think the engine shut off but the starter kept turning over even with the lanyard unpluged. When i hooked up battery machine started to turn over even without the lanyard hooked up.

The solenoid could be stuck... but that is a common issue when the MPEM gets roasted. (Sorry) Did you hook up the battery backward or jump start the ski?

no i did not jump backwards but the battery was banging around due to the tray breaking and the straps coming off. thanks for the response. could this be caused be a very low battery has 12v but low current?
