just purchased a 98 xp with a new engine, cranks fine idles fine will not take the gas when u throttle it think the gas is old change fuel filter and put some 93 octane gas in and high octane booster played with it finally started running ok but then started to act up again any help out here let me know what else to try thanks

youre a little too vague, youll get more help with more specifics, saying "my boat is acting up whats wrong" doesnt lead anyone in any solid direction. :)

You'll need to remove the carbs to clean them - Once you have them off the ski, remove the mag carb cover and pulse pump body on the mag side carb, and the PTO carb cover - there are two tiny black plastic filters that sit in the carbs underneath these covers. Pull them out, clean or replace as necessary, then reassemble - if you're not familiar with these carbs there is are some great links to the rebuild procedure that could help you in identifying what needs to be removed and what the filters look like - do a search on carb rebuild

And if it still has the grey fuel lines replace them first before going into the carbs.

I replaced every line in my XP without pulling the tank, no prob. Just make sure you replace them one at a time so there is no confusion about which line goes where. The Oetiker clamps were a bit of a pain... I don't have the tool to remove them so I cut mine off with a dremmel and replaced them with worm drive clamps- just be careful not to damage the hoses as its easy to overtighten that type of clamp.
do you have to remove tank to replace the grey fuel lines

While replacing the grey lines remove and clean the fuel selector valve. It is probably full of the same crap you will fine in the carb filters.

The center "dot" of the fuel selector knob will pop out and under the "dot" is a screw. Remove the screw and gently pull out on the knob and it will come off. Then there is a plastic nut...remove it and the selector valve should come off via the inside.
