hello, just looking for what you guys think on blocking the oil injection. I am in the process of rebuilding both the engines in my sportster 1800 and upon reinstall im debating whether or not to block the oil ijection and switching to pre-mix. I premix every other jet ski I have except for my di. When I got my engine for the spx from sbt they wouldnt warranty the engine unless the oil injection was eliminated. Do you guys think I should block it on my rebuilt motors or keep it.

It depends on how easy changing spark plugs is, you have experience with the premix so tell us how long can you idle thru a no-wake zone and how much smoke shows up when you resume to speed? I have one place I can go where idling time is only 10 minutes before I go onto the lake water, I am inclined to leave my injection stuff alone and save oil and plugs. I think you mis-read the SBT policy, they want premix in the beginning as a breakin supplement then gas and go.

I have been premixing my bikes since I was 10. I have yet to have any issue with my skis and I haven't fouled a plug in 4 seasons premixing with my ski's. I dont have to navigate very many no wake zones. I just hear alot of mixed feelings about the injection system, and that they fail alot.

I read and hear a lot of folks talk about the oil systems that have goop from mixed oils and when they are at the ramps where I dip I recommend them to put kerosene in the tank and use premix until it appears empty then choose an oil and stick with it, run premix in 5 gallon cans until the oil system is drinking again, then gas and go.
You will choose your plan, but I think if you take some prep time you will likely find nothing wrong with the OEM system, it feeds oil in a progressive fashion so little oil is used at idle because there is no stress on the driveline in comparison to running close to WOT jumping waves, pulling skiers or picnic tables like my kids did for years.

The seadoo injection system is very reliable, but it's up to you.

I agree with VooDoo, about SBT. They will warranty an engine with oil injection, but your first tank needs to be mixed up at 50:1 to supplement the injection system.

VooDoo is also right about mixing 2-stroke oils. I know "old-Timmers" who buy whatever oil they happen to see, and they use it in their boat. (outboards mostly) But as soon as they have an issue, they blame the injection system... when they should blame themselves for doing almost no maintenance.

Last thing. most oil injection failures can be tracked back to other things. I've seen people blame the oil injections when they forgot to put oil in the tank. But most of the time the filter is clogged, a oil line fell off (or broke) or they mixed oils, and what was in the tank turned to jello.
