Working on putting in the oil, gas tank, and carbs. My question, can you take off the head pipe in one piece? I heard it was a pain to split it. I want to do this to be able to get to all the other components installed. Without it's removal I can't see how to hook up the oil line to the tank and the carbs are a butt with it installed. Any ideas?

You can remove it without splitting it.

I did this recently but I disassembled the pipe afterwards. I cleaned and did the normal install of both pieces. it is a pain to put these together but not all that bad. I'd rather trust my work than someone elses and I didn't want any leaks. :D Good Luck.

Ok, I going for it, doing this will make a lot of things easier to access, for my rebuild.

I looked up the gasket for the head pipe to intake, All I see is a gasket but OSD references a seal kit as the old way. Is the gasket good enough or is there something else I need to get as well?

Awesome, thanks guys for the info! Got the head pipe out and it made difference getting to all the stuff I need to put back together. I'll order the gasket asap.

Any good maintenance practices I should do with the head pipe, it seems like a simple system but might as well go over it since i have it out.

I'd just make sure the aluminum welds are not leaking. They corrode from the inside so if the paint is peeling or there is any signs of corrosion it might be an opportunity to address. Good Luck.
