HI i recently bought 2 seadoos from a guy that were suposedly turn key with no problems the 95 xp ran really good..... and on the third tank of gas put a piston through the side of the engine. The 97 spx (787) has never run right from the get go. it runs like it is only running on one cylinder. It will only go about 10 miles an hour..... if you just let it idle and float for about a minute and then full throttle it -- it will pick up and ran like a bat outta ....for about 15 seconds. but then goes back to 10 miles an hour, Also if you start to jump wakes with it --- it will slowly pick up speed and go faster and faster as the impeller gets out of the water and then as soon as you start to turn it will go back to 10 MPH???
I got a manual and started reading and one of the things I noticed is that the manual says to the RAVE valves sre adjustered flush with the top of the cover - both of these are screwed all the way down. I took off the covers and the front rave valve was very oily and sticky and the back was like brand new and slid up and down very easy? also the back plug looks brand new where as the front plug has lots of oil etc up inside it,. almost like the back cylinder isnt firing???

A- what kind of problem would I have with the rave adjusters all the way down?
B- can a bad impeller cause the intermittent bogging problem
C- or a maybe it has a bad key? how is that checked?

D- anyone have a used engione for a 95 xp? (717)

I have owned these for only a month and have never stopped working on them
thanks

Clean the rave valves yearly...What is the compression of the cylinders? 150psi is ideally where it should be. Do the seadoo have Gray fuel lines...if so replace them and clean the carbs. The deteriorate from the inside out causing the carbs to get clogged.

thanks for the quick reply Carl.

I believe the lines are gray ( It is not where I am at now)
compression was 135 in both cylinders.
Is the RAVE valve adjustment that critical?

The rave valve adjustment regulates the rpm's via the exhaust valve. Stock is bottomed out...you can experiment if you prefer, it won't hurt anything. 135 Psi is good for an old seadoo like that.

Uh...that's Karl...with a K... silly:rofl:
