I have a 97 Xp been in storage a while, Starts but will not idle have cleaned and rebuilt carbs but no different, suspect Diaphragm may be weak, my other concern is reading this forum what is the problem with the gray fuel lines?

the lines clog up on the insides and also clog up your carbs, if you have the grey fuel lines you need to replace them with black fuel hose and clean your carbs and replace the filters.

Mine was hard to start would turn over several times. Replaced grey fuel lines last night Now she fires up almost instantly. I recomend replacing the lines It is a pain to do all of them but is worth it

Thanks, ill give it try. Just tried a load of fresh fuel is better running but still won't idle, is it marine grade fuel pipe or just automotive i need to replace it with?
Thanks simon t

I went to Orielys and bought 25' of automotive fuel line and 30 # 4 Stainless hose clamps. Theres a sticky somewhere on this site that gives this information with some pics. look in How too

Thanks bigbaldbob, just about to strip them out, and pray it does'nt rain here in the uk.

I would recomend not replacing the grey line thats for the positive fuel tank check valve. I pulled mine out and I'm not sure how to get it back in. If I had to do it over I would have just cut it about 10'' then tied it into new hose. good luck

Hi, changed the fuel, fuel lines, cleaned the carbs, starts and runs without cutting out, but revs high, and still wont idle low rpm, also have to turn fuel off to stop it, pulling kill switch doesnt work.
Any ideas?

Done the pop off test and leak test all seems ok there, just cannot reach a happy medium to get it to idle, over revs and have to turn fuel off to kill it, pulling kill switch in this situation does not work.

try pulling choke to see if it revs down, and can shut it off. If that works you have it running too lean. You either have an air leak or something is wrong with the carb settings. Carbs set at 1-1 1/2 low speed and 0 on high speed.

Xp97

Is that both hi speed at zero and PTO low at 1 1/2 ?

WILL GIVE IT A GO IN THE MORNING DONT THINKTHE NEIGHBOURS WANT TO HEAR AT 9.08PM

Thanks simon t
