Well I turned away from a 96 xp and went with a 97 xp? It runs great but there is some noticeable slack in the throttle cable you can see at the hand grip. How hard is it to adjust? I have a 96 spx and this new ski motor looks a little challenging with the engine tilted. And how do i get to the gas tank to replace the gray fuel lines i bought new line again this entire ski set up looks challenging.

Thanks
David

You may not need to remove the slack. The cable is adjusted so that the throttle opens full. If that's happening... it's fine.

Thanks I planned on taking off the air box and stuff to see if the carbs are wide open when the throttle is maxed out? This ski just seemed to be not as quick initially out of the hole compared to my spx? I figured it might have to do with the slack. Dr honda is pulling the carbs off this ski the same as my 96 spx? I was told no one liked working on the 97's because of the design?

It's close... but not exactly the same. Basically, your 96 SPx's carbs are up and down. (720 engine) The 97 XP has an 800 engine, and the carbs are on sideways. Mechanically, it's the same... but because of the angle... they are a bastard to get to.

When you adjust the cable... you will hold the throttle open and then adjust the nuts on the bracket so the carb arm just JUST OFF the stop. If you pull it too tight, and the arm is hitting the stop... then you will be stretching the cable, and could break it. At that point... what ever slack is in the cable... you will have to live with.
