Electrical is the problem, I put sparkies in the coil wires, they spark then quite, I put a MPEM off a good runner, I put a Stator from a good runner, I put on a coil from a good runner, I put on a post from a good runner,,I put on a good starter button, I reprogrammed the key, still starts for 3 secs then the spark quits. cannot find any broken wires,cannot find any loose connectors, ugh Help me !

I know you said electrical but..........How about a very clogged fuel line...that might seep enough gas to let it run for a couple seconds?
Do you have the gray tempo fuel lines?

Have you changed the plug wires?
OK, but did you check or change the plug wires?
You say you already tried another stator. I would try unplugging the regulator/rectifier (small box bolted to the MPEM) and see what happens.
I would also take a VERY close look at the connector and wires that plug into the front of the engine. You might also try unplugging the gauges and look for a change.
Anybody added any aftermarket accessories (tach, hourmeter,etc,) that might be interfering with the ignition?

the coil and wires I removed from a running ski, no progress, so I put the coil with wires and plug caps back on the runner,it started and ran just great.
Hi, Yep, unplugged the rect. no change, so I plugged it back in,, did the guage thing also, no aftermarket items on the ski. thank you !

Good deal........Maybe it was a bad/loose connection that you corrected when you reinstalled everything.
my ski still has the problem, the seragate ski that I borrowed the coil from is the one that runs great. sorry for the confusion.
the engine does stay running with the start button held. are we get'n somewhere? lol
Yes, but WHERE is the question.
This leads to the starter solenoid. Is it a factory solenoid? There is a small red wire with a in line fuse coming off one of the big posts. Is it on the correct post? Has someone got creative with the wiring inside the box? Sounds like something is wired wrong.

update on this problem, I parted out the ski, I have used the mpem , stator, coil with wires and caps, solinoid , dess post, all of these parts have been used on other ski's now and with no problem. must be a wire harness on the dead 97 xp? oh well another one bite's the dust they say! thank you all for your idea's ,,,,,God Bless ,,,,,,
