97 XP starting problems :$

so i bought this broken already, so what the problem was when i first got it was the stator burnt, i change that and it would start.. never took it out to test it then becuase it was januray and lakes abit frozen... so now that it warmed up i pulled it out of the storage and give it a test start on the trailer.. first try it started up fine. press stop it stoped.. i did this a couple times to make sure it will start all the time before i head out to the lake. but after so many tries. the button wouldnt work as if the button broke i still get the 2 normal beeps when i plug the lanyard in. for awhile i wouldnt even get a click or anything when i press the start button.. then after 100 times of pluging and unpluging the lanyard and trying to start it . id get a a click sound from a box that is beside the exhaust ( cdi?) so the start button does work. its a black box on the left side of the ski if you are sitting on it. and now that is where it sits. EVERY time i try to start it i get the click from that box.. still the normal beeps... a few things dont work that might help you recognize the problem.. the VTS dont work (when i press the down button i get a click from the vts in the back.. and the gas gauge and speedometer dont work but the VTS guage does work..

also forgot to mention that the battery is brand new and i tried 3 new batteries. i get the same thing

Are you sure the starter motor is good?

Maybe a bad battery from sitting. Gas goes bad in 3-4 weeks. Did you find out WHY
the stator burned up?

yea the stator burnt becuase water somehow got into it and rusted up.. i cleaned out and and had a brand new stator and cover put on. starter motor is good.. i disassembled the start before and wenbt threw it with grease.

Same type problem

My son started our 97 XP on the trailer, he stopped it immeaditely I told him to restart and let run a few seconds. Nothing no beeps, no noise, from anywhere. I checked battery cables. Negative cable was loose. I tighten it try to start a time or two and then nothing. No beeping no sound coming from anywhere.

so after working on it today. i got it to start.. the problem was loose conection between somewhere.. not sure exactly where because i went threw almost every cable possible.. now it turns over everytime ..

now that i got the motor to turn over everytime theres a another problem.. it doesnt start by it self when cold.. i always spray some Quick Start into the carbs for it to start.. after that it starts just fine.. what can be a solution?

pull the throttle a couple times, the accellerator pump should spray/prime it. You
might pull the airbox off and watch for spray.

After you went through all the wires did the spedo, vts, and gas gauge start working again, none of thoes work on my ski maybe its a loose wire. Thanks

check the ground cable that goes to the the mpem, if it corrodes there you won't get any beeps,
