97 xp Stalling/ Shutting off.

I have been reading about the xp's having this problem and I have already replaced the dess post and cleaned the wiring harness and it fixed it for a month but now its doing it again.

I will fire it up and it will run great then die. pull key and re install and it runs fine until it does it again.

any suggestions?

From what Im reading it must be electrical.

Yep... it sounds electrical to me too. Since your post is new... the only things I can think of are that your lanyard is warn, and it's not holding a tight contact to the post. Or the other thing could be that the start/stop button on the handle bars is going bad.

Unfortunately, it may be hard to find.


One thing to try is to clean the inside of the lanyard, to make sure the contacts are clean... then put a zip tie around the cap to help hold it tight to the post. It's not advised to ride all the time with the cap zip tied, but it may help you find the problem.
