97 xp problems

I bought this off a friend for 1700 it is very clean, Engine was just rebuilt. But it sat for a year before i got it. Battery was dead so i replaced it. Starter froze up so new one should be here today. When we got it out it wouldent rund good and kept bogging down. I took the fuel filter off and cleaned it, just took the carbs off and were rebuilding them now. Im new to seadoo and am wondering if anything else could be wrong? We sucked out all the old gas and put new gas in it. Hopefully the carbs will do the trick. Also the RAVE valves i took one cap off and a spring was gone....i replaced it but i was just wondering if that could of had anything to do with it? Any help will be great Im more used to cars

no, but good idea to replace the missing spring. Make sure the "red dots" are screwed all the way done, andthen 1-3 clicks back, pull the RAVES out completely and clean the carbon build-up, also, with carbs off, nows a good time to replace the grey fuel lines..you'll need about 15ft of 5/16in and 5ft of 1/4in.

Hey thanks, The carbs were squeaky clean. The starter turns great and the battery cranks it great. But i cant get it over 20mph its acting like it getting way to much fuel. How do i adjust these carbs?

Welll......


The SBN carbs on your XP have jets in them, so the adjustments are minimal. But...

There is a Low speed needle toward the bottom, and it will stick out on the throttle linkage side. Set that to 1-3/4 turns out

There is a high speed needle toward the top, on the opposite side of the carb. That should be lightly seated. (closed) The XP for that year had a different main jet for the PTO and MAG carb.

If they are the original carbs, and they are clean... then with the above settings... the engine shouldn't be getting too much fuel.

Last questions... did you check the needle valves in the carb? (pop-off, and leak down?)
