I just bought a 1997 SPX and am having some starting issues.
I put the DESS on get my two beeps and then start cranking. Sometimes it will fire right up, but normally it just cranks with the occasional back fire. When I pull the plugs they come out awfully wet so I dry them off with a paper towel, reinstall and it will fire. After firing it will either catch and keep running or die. If it dies I have to repeat the dry the plug off routine otherwise it will just crank and backfire.
Once the ski is running it runs great. I ran it the other day a couple of miles straight at mid throttle and shut it down. When I went to restart it I had to remove the plugs and dry them to get it to start.
I'd read that too much oil could cause this so I confirmed the oil injection pump alignment was properly set.
Any ideas on where to go from here are appreciated.
BTW, I have spark and 150psi of compression in each cylinder, good spark and the gas is fresh. No water in the separator.
