97 Speedster will not rev above 3000 rpm

I have a 97 Speedster, both engines start and idle fine and will rev cleanly up to 3000 rpm. At 3000 rpm both engines start a heavy misfire and will not rev any higher. Both engines hit the mis fire at the same rpm and will do it independantly of each over (i.e one will misfire at 3000 rpm even if the other engine is shut off). Both motors were running just fine yesterday so not sure what has happened. Can anyone give me any pointers ?

Do you have it in gear? Sounds like you have it in nuetral or the switch is bad..

yep... the MPEM thinks it's in neutral.

This happened to me but only on one engine. I found that if I were to throttle up to 2800rpm's and then gun it, the engine would get over the "hump" and be fine.

Thanks to all for the replies. I have tried both in neutral and in gear, from your replies it sounds as if I have a bad neutral switch. Time to go check !!
