I’m helping a friend who has a 97 speedster that just had one of the two motors rebuilt. At some point during the madden voyage after the rebuild, the output drive became disengaged and water started leaking in. ( motor runs fine). The boat is remote to me, but I am planning to go look at it in the next few weeks. Looking for any advice this group may have on what to look at.
Thanks
Keith

Sounds like they lost the driveshaft seal or carbon seal if it’s newer.

When the driveshaft seal gets damaged it will not only let water pour in but the pump is sucking air and not water so there’s no propulsion from the pump.

Thank you for the feedback. Going to look at it next Saturday. I’ll let you know what I find out.

I am no Mechanica but it sounds like the Carbon ring is shoot. It Will happen if you run it out of the water. But since water is coming in I bet the carbon ring is shot.

Make sure the splines didn’t strip for the shaft on the back of the engine while you’re there. I’ve seen that with lack of grease on reinstall before. He would turn left and the shaft would pop out.
