97 Speedster Max RPM's 3000-3200

Hope everyone had a good 4th out on the water. I've been having some problems getting my speedster running smooth. I've gotten both engines running and not smoking much but neither engine will get above 3000-3200 rpms. The port engine seems to be running harder at idle than the starboard engine and I'm still thinking there's something going on with too much oil being pumped into the engine. Also when you give both of these engines full throttle and they get up to around 3k they sound like an engine that's reached their redline......a sort of cutting out I guess you could say. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I'm wondering if the carbs are needing to be cleaned and rebuilt.

Thanks for any help,
Jason

exhaust hoses

Check the exhaust hoses. Sometimes they demaninate on the inside and restrict the exhaust flow. Limits rpm to around 3000. See photo on left.
