97 Seadoo GTX Rotary valve problem

I have a 97 GTX and the shop just changed my Rotary valve - they replaced it with a 159 degree unit and set it to 147. they told me the old one was wrong and must have been put in by someone who did not know what they were doing. The old one looks different - maybe its a 147? I am 98% positive it was the original factory valve.

Now the seadoo will not start - should I stop using this dealer and figure out how to put the old one back in? When I look at the shop manual it does list 2 options - howver I don't think I have the 717 engine.

Questions
How can I tell if I have a 787/800 or a 717?

Is the 159degree valve only for the 787/800?

This dealer also sold me used carbs - then charged me to rebuild them. They don't pass pop-off (5psi max) - so I am ordering new carbs.

Thanks in advance

doesnt matter

whether its a 787 or 717, they both use the 159* valve, set at 147*/65*.

The dealer probably installed it, 180* off...

What you want for the old carbs?

It could have been the wrong valve... but even if they used a valve from an old yellow engine... if it was installed correctly, it would still run.

If you took a running SeaDoo to a dealer, and then it cam back not running... I would not pay them, and seek legal council.

Also... why would you have to buy old carbs, and them pay to have them rebuilt?? Couldn't they just rebuild your old carbs? I've saved some crusty carbs in the past.

If you can't work on the ski yourself... I would take it to someone who knows SeaDoo. It sounds like there may be a bunch of little things wrong at this point.

Sorry...

look at the engine tag. It will say the size.

BUT... a 720 engine sits up. If you take the seat off your ski... you will be looking at the head, and the spark plugs. An 800 engine sits at an angle, and you will be looking at the RAVE valves. (black plastic, with red caps)
