OEM wear ring with 40 - 50 hours of use. Impellor is a Skat Trak swirl 16/21. I am experiencing cavitation under heavy load which is caused by the damaged portion of the wear ring. However, what does normal wear ring wear and tear look like? I have read that it is normal for the sides of the ring to be worn while the top and bottom are virtually untouched. Is this because of flex in the plastic pump? The Impellor still looks like new with no signs of any damage. I have a new driveshaft (original bent by tangled rope), New carbon ring, replaced pump bearings and shaft.

The stock wear rings are fitting much looser than before. The ring does not slip but didn't require much effort to pull out of the pump housing. Time do drill the pump housing and screw the next liner down? I frequently pull a wake boarder and find the OEM ring suffers performance degradation. I am considering either a SBT Delrin or WSM stainless liner.

Here in British Columbia OEM wear rings are $78 after taxes @ the dealer. Delrin wear rings are not available anywhere and must be order from the USA. I can purchase WSM Stainless wear rings from Ontario for $96. On average I put 100 hrs or more a year on the Seadoo

Your pics aren't working.

BUT... no... don't put screws into the wear ring. It can cause other issues. It sounds like your pump is warped already, so if I were you... I would get an early bronze pump. They hold up to abuse better. Also... I'm not a fan of stainless pump liners. If you suck anything hard into the pump... it will just eat the impeller too. Think of the wear ring as a "Fuse". It's the cheap, sacrifice part. With a stainless ring... sure it will hold up longer... but when it is warn out... you will be replacing bearings, and the impeller too.

The SBT rings are hit-or-miss. They use to have fitment issues... but in the last couple years they have seen to have gotten better. SO... it's up to you if you want to order one.

I did an inspection of my pump housing a found some concerns:

(1) With the OEM wear ring installed there is a .012" gap between a small bottom portion of the pump housing and the outer wear ring.

(2) The Aluminum insert which houses the bearings has slight movement inside the plastic housing surrounding it.
I replaced the impellor shaft and bearings last year when I purchased the Seadoo. The movement is not bearing play but the actual aluminum bearing housing moving inside outer plastic housing.

Aluminum Bearing carrier movement:

I replaced the driveshaft because it was slightly bent. The previous owner ran over a ski rope. I suspect that the deflection in the driveshaft could have been transmitted to the pump housing causing the issues I am experiencing.

IS THE PUMP HOUSING NO GOOD?

you are correct. there should be no play aluminum insert to pump housing hence is why the oval wear on the wear ring. time for a new or good used pump. minnitonka4me may have one.
