I was going out into the gulf and went about 30 mins out along the shore. when i turned back the computer stoped me from going any higher than 5,000 rpms. i get closer to shore and turn it off and restart. The maint light comes on and still was un able to go above 5,000 rpms. from 2,000 rpms to 4,500 rpms it ran good at full throttle but as soon as it got a little higher the computer shut it back down to about 4,300 rpms and it would be able to go back up to 5,000 rpms and then the same thing. I took it home cleaned it up and reset the light and changed the oil filter, fuel filter (was really nasty) changed out the spark plugs but dident need it. i checked the compression and it was good. I took it back out the day after after. first starting off was ok. but after 30 mins or so i would nail it and rmps would jump from 4,900 rpms to about 5,900 rpms and would keep on doing this. And would get pushed back down in rpms for not reason it would seem like the computer was holding it back but not sure. If you have any ideas please let me know. thanks.

check your fuel lines and see if they are the stock grey ones. if they are, then you will need replace them with 25 ft of car fuel line 1/4 inch. then clean the carbs because the old fuel lines gunk them up. my gsx did the same thing as yours and it was fuel lines so i would check that

I was thinking of replacing my fuel lines just for general purpose. I have a 99 GTX LTD, and I've heard that the old grey lines do rot out. I figure the lines lasted a decade, and thats not bad. While doing my research, I've noticed that the seadoo microfiche lists fuel lines in the 6mm and 5/16 variety (5/16 is 8mm, 6mm is 15/64). I greatly appreciate any assistance!!!

i'd check all connections/cables. With compression good, before i'd tear carbs apart, i'd disconnect the red wires from rectifier, and w/ full battery, give ski another run, if that didnt fix it, then, i'd clean/rebuild carbs..

Alright i do not know what the rectifier is or what it does but i am under the impression that it is like an alternator in a car. and that would make sense if it were bad because i had a battery tender on it changing the last time i went out and by the time i brought it back it the low volt light came on. so i put a tester on the battery before i started it it was at 13.1 and after i started it was up to 14.1 so not sure if the rectifier is the problem or not. but i do have gray fuel lines and will be changing them before the next run. so if Tim or any one else has any other ideas about the rectifier please let me know. thanks

all right took it out sunday with a full battery and disconnected the rectifier. ran great. came back in after about 2 mins cuz the battery was getting low. pluged it back in and bogged down at 4,500-5,000 rpms again. so i ordered the rectifier today. is their any thing else that i need to replace with the rectifier that might cause this one to go bad? i also looked at the fuel lines they look like a real pain to change but i looked at them and they looked very good. and thanks for your help Tim

Hey, rite-on..glad i could help...i'd re-check all the terminals, wires, cables..etc, if any bad/corroded, might lead to the rectifier overwork'n itself, but thats my opinion.... Think i'm hav'n same issue with my boat (challenger), ran outta time, cut plug wires back, thats about it, and still, excellent take-off, sound..etc, but then bounc'n down to 4k, then up to 7k, down to 5k...and so on....

Alright bought a new rectifier took a week to get in but installed it todaY. took it out it ran good at 6,500 rpms for about 1 or 2 mins then it started jumpin back down between 5,000-5,500 rpms. but i had the battery on a trickle charger for 2 days and then put it in this morning and hucked it up at like 11:30 and then started it befor i got out in the water it told me it had low volts. but idied throught the no wake zone for about 3 mins thenm wide open for about 2 just fine and then it started jumpin again. im going to take the battery out and have it tested to see if its holding a charge. but if any one has any other ideas please let me know im thinking im going to send it to the dealer soon. Thanks

ahhh damn.......chief, found same somewhat, scenerio with my boat, one motor rok'n at 7200rpm, other at full throttle, bounces around 7k, then 3k, then 7k, then 5k..etc, get the picture. After unplug'n things, put'n new spark plugs in, fuel filter..nuth'n, wasnt til I lowered the rpm about 500, on good motor, and now the motor that was glitch'n, stopped glitch'n and bang'n on 7200rpm, but will glitch if I bring other motor up past 6500rpm.
So, with post'n my prob...few members are steering me to a fuel delivery problem...

Try replacing the fuel lines and taking apart the carbs & cleaning them. You mentioned that your fuel filter was "really nasty". I'm will to bet that the internal filters in the carbs are the same. Clean or replace them.

Same thing with my 97 GSX, replaced the fuel lines, cleaned the fuel selector and fuel filters, rebuilt the carbs and all is well now.

Took it to a shop. cuz i dont know how to rebuild carbs and dident have the time to do it but they rebuilt the carbs and it took it out it runs fairly good. the low 12 volt light comes on every time i start it even after a trickel charger has been on it for hours. and some time it shuts off in the middle of the water by it self for no reason cant get it to do it twice with the same motions but mostly it runs good. if any one had any ideas please let me know.
Thanks for every ones help.
