Just picked up a 97 GTX in good shape w/ 104hrs on it. Starts and runs fine at idle, low and medium RPM’s. At quick acceleration to WOT it normally maintains about 5500 rpms but every 30-60 it will accelerate up to about 6800 rpms and then power down on its own to around 5500. It seems like it’s starving for fuel and occasionally getting it.
If I slowly accelerate to the WOT it tops out at about 5800 rpms without the surging of throttle as mentioned before.
We have checked the fuel, added seafoam, and changed the plugs out. Jet and wear ring look good.
Any advise would be appreciated!

Have you rebuilt the carbs?
Are the gas lines grey?

Sounds like fuel issue. Check the lines, fuel selector, vents. If all is good there check the filters in the carbs and maybe do a rebuild on them.

Carbs have not been rebuilt yet, was thinking that may be the next step.
Yes, the gas lines are gray.

Thank you for the info.

Don't run it anymore until you change the fuel lines and rebuild the carbs. Those grey lines are engine killers. They deteriorate, plug the carbs and cause a lean condition.
