787's eat starters for breakfast. The light commonly comes on when lanyard is attached and lights go off when engine runs on its own power. Staying on may indicate the rectifier is going south. Both the starter & battery can be load tested
to rule a failure of either. Do you need suggestive maintenance and have a manual?
Thanks for your info I did remove the starter and it dose seem noisey on the bench. what starter would you suggest i did look at a couple on e-bay. 1 more thing how would i test that rectifier and where is it located. thanks 4 your time.
If you can open the starter and feel comfortable with replacing parts repair it yourself - once you get it going again you will be able to check the charge with a voltmeter on the battery itself and when you lift the throttle a bit voltage should move upwards toward 13.8-14.0 from 12.0-12.6.
