97 GTX Shows Dashes for Hours

Picked up another 97 gtx for a buddy today. Has no spark but turns over fine. Cycling through the gauge, when I get to hours, it just have 4 dashes that blinks. Also, fuel gauge shows nothing. Doesn’t say low fuel, but no indications what so ever. I can cycle through the rest of the functions as normal on the gauge. Will the engine turn over if the key or dess post is bad? Or will it turn over with no spark as we have.

Why are the hours not showing up vs the 4 blinking dashes?

Sometimes when you have no spark you can reinsert the key a couple of times and the engine will get fire. There a a few reasons why you won't get spark. I'd check the wires at the coil to determine if the coil has power when you depress the start/stop button. I recommend a set of these for checking spark. They can tell you a lot more than if you are getting spark. They will show weak or intermittent spark as well. Good Luck.

Update on this,

Found a broken ground wire for the rear electrical box. Fixed the wire, and the machine now fires up like normal. Also getting two beeps, so the beeper is working.

Still have dashed out hours, and no fuel indication. Going to troubleshoot the fuel baffle, but the dashed out hours has me puzzled.......
