97 GTX Flooding with oil

My GTX sat for about three weeks, and when I went to start it the engine wouldn't turn over.

I checked the battery and pulled the plugs only to find out the engine was full of oil, and I mean full. I had to turn it over for a good 5 minutes to clear it, and even then it smoked like mad.

I checked the compression, and it's even on both holes at bout 150psi. The ski ran fine after the oil burned off after a few seconds at throttle, that is until my drive shaft seal started leaking... Any ideas what the issue is? Perhaps some sort of check valve?

Oh, and what is a good place to get Seadoo parts?

It could be the rotary shaft seal but it's more likely the inner crankshaft seals. You have to tear down the engine and press apart the crank to replace them.

Are you serious? :ack: I thought it might be some sort of check valve.. How is it exactly that a crank seal would make my cylinders fill with oil? I mean it's under the piston and gravity is working against it..

So i'm assuming a machine shop would have to press the crank and change the seals? Or just get a new crank? Also where would the rotary shaft seal be located on the engine?

Just wondering what I got my self into. I should have sold it last month as planned..

the inner seals keep the oil, in the rotary valve assy. When they go bad, oil from that cavity leaks into the lournal/rod area.

The rv assy seal, is behind the intake manifold. Pull carbs off, then undo the 4-bolts hold'n that manifold to case, then you'll expose the rotary valve. Dont/try not to pull that from the gear, or else, you'll need a degree wheel to reset it. But behind that gear, the plate is on, is the seal, with snap ring around it.

Hmm, so do you guys think I should check the rotary valve before pulling the crank?

You mentioned that I will need a degree wheel to get the rv back in. Is there any thing special I need to know before I proceed? Perhaps there is some sort of write up on the job? I just want to know what I'm getting myself into before I dig in to it. Any help would be appreciated.

I looked up the part, and I'm assuming I have to swap out part #6.

I also seen the whole assembly from SBT for about $90.
