Hello forum, bought a 787 from a coworker a couple months ago, he had the carbs rebuilt, all new fuel lines by a local shop, he hadnt ridden it after the repair it was this past winter, anyways i bought it, drained, removed and cleaned the fuel tank spic and span, replaced the inline fuel fuel filter, put in fresh 93 octane ethanol free fuel, fresh battery, put some engine fogger down the spark plug holes a couple days previous, new spark plugs, cranked the engine a few short bursts to move the fogging oil up and down the cylinders, spark plugs in, cranked it over choke out, after a few minutes nothing, pulled the plugs, cranked it no spark, checked the fuses, the one in the ECM was blown, popped a new fuse in, blew instantly, bought another ECM, still no spark, fuse in the solenoid, blown, bought new coil, urekaa, i got spark, cranked it over, nothing, shot some ether free starting fluid though the hole in the breather, fired right up, and would run as long as i sprayed fluid in, fuel pumps are working, when i went to open the fuel tank cap,, i heard hssing from suction, let it set a day charged battery back up, tried starting again, nothing even with starting fluid, put an inline spark tester no spark at all, checked all fuses,, all good, checked the ground, kinda iffy put an entire new groundwire setup in place, still no spark, any ideas other than the pick-up in the stator case, thanks for any input

There is a second ground wire, its really thin and comes of the rear electrical box to the battery. Is it connected?

Do not use starter fluid. Could pop a cylinder. Use mixed gas shot into air box. I use a baby medication syringe. Make sure all your fuses are good. You get beeps when key is put on post? You can get repair manuals for free off the Internet. Might think about doing a Stator check out. Coil could be bad but do all the check out before you drop dollars on a new coil. Check and clean all the connections of positive and negative wires. Protect with Dielectric tune up grease. If you do junction plugs do not put grease in plugs. Swab on male prongs if you can. Grease in the female part will not let it latch fully.

old ecm was bad as well as the coil, both already changed thats how i was able to start the engine with starting fluid, this starting fluid is either free, with upper cylinder lubricant, wont damage the pistons unless used excessively, found the issue, running great, thanks for the info,

hi forum, the conclusion of my issue was when i changed out the coil i put the old spark plug boots back on, seems they were the problem, it always helps to back track and question everything, put on new boots, a few cranks and she fired right up, thanks for all the info, hope this helps someone else

Put Dielectric grease in the spark plug boots. It can keep water out if you take on water due to some failure or capsize event.

thanks, all connectors in the entire wiring harness were cleaned and new grease when i installed the new computer, habit of an old mechanic, lol
