Had my ski running then it just died and I now I have no spark! befor it died I noticed I was real low on injection oil and was wondering if there is a something in the mpem that would have shut the motor down due to low oil? low oil was flashing on the gauge! I got some put it in but noticed there is a tube that dumps back in the top of the oil tank which still has air in it? and it connects to a t fitting on top of oil tank and there are wires that go from that fitting to the mpem? is there a way to prime the oil injection?

Nope... There isn't anything in the MPEM to shut it down.

If you lost spark... just check over all the normal stuff.

1) Ground to the black box
2) shorts in any of the ignition wires
3) Make sure the Pickup coil isn't broke.

everything looks fine! and its weird because it was running in my driveway for about 5 min then it just died and that's when I found I lost spark!

just trying to eliminate things if my mpem went bad would everything else still work? because everything else still works?

The pickup coil bracket inside the mag cover had a tendency to break off inside the cover. When this happens, you suddenly lose spark for seemingly no reason.

If all grounds and wires check out ok, take the white wire off the coil in the rear ebox and put a meter or testing light on it. If there is a proper signal going to the coil from the mag housing the light will flash as you turn the engine over which means the stator is sending a proper signal to the coil In this case the culprit is usually the coil.

If there is no signal on the white wire like the guys said there is a good chance that the pick up coil inside the mag cover has broken loose, I had to fix 2 this summer

I know and was thinking of taking the cover off to inspect that but its such a pain in the A$$!!! and I do have a spare trigger coil! guess I am going to try that cause everything else looks fine mpem, ignition coil, wires!

you know what? I was just thinking and when I put my key on I'm not hearing the 2 short beeps anymore? maybe its something with my key???

Could be, though I don't trust those OEM beepers. They go out all the time, like it's their job. For peace of mind, maybe check it with your volt meter too. If you press the button 5 times (I think it's 5) it should give some sort of audible response, indicating the computer is present and accounted for. Haven't done this in a while, so I forgot what to listen for.

could still be a dead beeper. radio shack has em cheap, and usually in stock. you could get one just to test and be sure... though I'd replace it, or at least splice them both in.

If you dont get 2 beeps but you can still turn the engine over, 95% of the time it is the beeper itself that is not working.

Depending on your meeting and how quick it can respond to the signals 7-8v might be ok. You want an intermittent 12v going to the coil but most meters, especially digital, cant show it accurately. I just tried it on mine (which is working) with a digital meter and could only once get it to read 12v the rest of the time it is just jumping around.

You can test your stator at the mag housing plug, to rule out that there is not a damaged wire between the front plug and ebox.

hey Kicker, just pulled the mag housing cover off and my trigger coil looked exactly like the one in your picture! broken off at the mounting bracket!! thanks for all the info going to put it all back together now!!

Just want to report back that my problem was a broken Trigger coil and I had an extra one from parts I had so I replaced it and the ski is all back together and running 100%! Thanks to everyone for all the input! This is a Great Site!!!!:hurray:

Awesome!! Glad you found it, and thanks for being a good member and concluding your thread. So many unfinished threads out there...

Well done buudy, glad you got it sorted out....now go out and enjoy the water.

I had 2 break on back to back days n a weekend, so I just welded them up. I don't suspect the weld will last too long so I ordered a spare for the next time. But so far so good.

This thread has helped so much!!! I got the cover off and discovered that the piece that bolts to the fly wheel that goes over the stator had come loose and broke all the bolts that held it on,, so it was just sitting on the stator and not spinning!! Motor on its way out so I came remove the bolts and figure out how to get it back on and in the correct orientation,,, Any help would be appreciated

I might be misunderstanding you, but I'm not sure you have to remove the whole motor. Get a flywheel puller and remove just the flywheel. You might have to use a blowtorch on it to help it release (careful using that near the fuel tank). The flywheel isn't too hard to remove if you have the right tool, and it won't be much easier to fix out of the ski if you DON'T take off the flywheel. just my two cents ;)

thanks,,, I am checking it out now,,, I assume you loosen the nut to remove the oil pump drive? I have lots of pullers but with all the screws broken off in the flywheel,, Not sure where to pull from?

you have the 787 motor in there, so you need to get a puller that looks like a big black threaded (on the inside) socket with a fine-threat bolt in the center. The socket screws onto the flywheen and you screw the the bolt down to pop the flywheel off. It's easy if you have a propane torch. Be sure to put something onto the crankshaft threads so that you don't booger them up with the center push-bolt when you go to take it off. Also, it's possible to push in that square insert that drives your oil pump. The best thing to do would be to put the flywheel nut and push against that, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to... Anyway, use your brain and be careful and you should be fine. I believe the puller can be had from SBT or ebay for under $30.
