Hey everyone, so last summer I was riding my jet ski almost daily on vacation. One day I went to start it and nothing happened. After some investigating I found that the 5 amp fuse for the MPEM was blowing everytime i tried to start the ski. After I put a new fuse in I could attach my key and everything would work fine until I try to start it. That's when the fuse would blow.

I can't seem to find out what is causing this. Has anyone experienced this? I did read somewhere that on the back of the brain there is a diode which could go bad but I'm not sure. If anybody could give me some direction or advice I would really appreciate it. I want to keep my baby running for as long as possible.

I attached a picture from my manual of the fuse holder and which fuse is blowing

Thank you for taking the time to read my post I hope you all have a great day! Also thank you in advance for any help!

that happened on my 93 XP, I got a new mpem and it fixed it but it could be a different problem for you

I just saw a YouTube video that described the diode in the mpem going bad and it show the MPEM on the upper left corner dug out and then re epoxied. Search Sebastian blue crew on YouTube

I had this happening on a 97 GTI (720 motor). Turned out I had a crapload of water in my MAG housing. It was shorting out the pickup coil circuit. That water also ruined my crank.

Sebastian blue crew is my favorite seadoo youtuber and hes one of the only 2 stroke seadoo youtuber, anyway here's the link,
Hey thank you for taking the time to find the video. I just want to say thank you and I appreciate it hopefully that's the issue and I can fix it.

I had seen this video a while ago myself when I was looking up different issues. But thank you for pointing me in that direction I will definitely try it. I'm not ready to give up on her yet! She still has a lot of riding left. Thanks again!

Is this a 787 Engine? What does your MPEM look like. I dug into a 1996 SPI MPEM and repaired it by replacing the diode. The cause for the failure was the rectifier.

The ski was running great then it quit would do anything. 5 amp fuse was blown. I replaced it and it blew again. I purchased a working MPEM and installed it. I was instructed to plug it in and see what happened. I didn't know a lot about the electronics back then so I gave it a shot. It blew the MPEM up also. I ended it making a test rig MPEM and after the ski started with that one I installed another good MPEM. I could have just used one of my repaired and test MPEMS but I opted to replace it. Good Luck.
